Coming up this week!
The Joey Thomas Big Band is bringing some Big Band Treasures to Frankfort, NY at the great little bandstand at the St. Francis Club. It’s an evening of big band music and open to all.
In addition to some of the popular “classics” like Dean Martin’s rendition of I’m Sitting on Top of The World, we’ll be sampling from across the big band spectrum including tunes like Rock Around The Clock to Stan Kenton’s Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea to Doc Severinsen’s version of In The Mood to Michael Bublé’s Sway.
If you’re in the greater Utica, Herkimer, Little Falls, Richfield Springs or Cooperstown area, come on over and take a listen! We’d love to play for you!
For over a decade, the Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival has featured a wealth of jazz greats, critically acclaimed up-and-coming artists, and local favorites. This year, The Joey Thomas Big Band has been invited to share our passion for the big band with a tribute to three icons who brought the big band beyond the swing era.
On July 2, 1976, the bands of Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, and Maynard Ferguson performed at the Saratoga Jazz Festival. Inspired by the convergence of these three jazz legends, bandleader Joey Thomas gives his nod to these jazz masters as we make our Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival debut. Highlighting the swing of Kenton with an all-time favorite like “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea” to the jumpin’ and jivin’ of Woody Herman’s take on Ellington’s “Things Ain’t What They Used To Be” to the high voltage of a Ferguson chart, The Joey Thomas Big Band will have any jazz lover falling in love with the big band all over again.
The JTBB will be on 2:30 – 3:30 p.m, but you’ll want to plan to attend this all-day concert. The Jazz Festival is an event for all ages, and admission is still free! Food & beverages will be available for purchase. Presented by Capital Bank, an evening fireworks show over the Hudson River will bring the festival to a close. Click here for more information for more information on the Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival or call (518) 434-2032.
We hope to see you there!
