Joey Thomas Big Band Plays In State

Big Band Opens at Relocated Comedy Works

It was not a funny show this time at Albany's Comedy Works, it was just fun.

The Joey Thomas Big Band attracted a good crowd for its first performance at The Comedy Works' State Room. It seems the band may have found a new venue that is a good match with the band's music. That is how it used to be when they played at The Crooked Lake House---host to many visiting big name big bands back in the 30s and 40s. This new venue is a beautifully renovated ballroom in the former De Witt Clinton Hotel.

The Comedy Works (www.thecomedyworks.com) has been a Capital Region mainstay for twenty one years. It has relocated to its new and extensively renovated quarters in the De Witt Clinton Building at Eagle and State Streets, Albany. The state Room is beautiful and evokes the era of many of the JTBB's tunes. That could not have been more so than this day when they were performing their Big Band Treasures of World War Two.

The Band's performance was one of its best. Vocalist Bob Father did a super job. Mia Sciroco's vocal contributions are sidelined due to laryngitis. The rooms acoustics work well for the band, the dance floor is excellent. The band sounded terrific.
